I'm not a professional investor and I don't stare at candlestick charts all day. But I do hold a few HK stocks and A-shares, and my daily headache wasn't research — it was not knowing how my positions were doing today.
The old way: open the phone brokerage app and check one by one. Then I found the stock-watcher skill on OpenClaw's ClawHub. After using it for a while, it's completely replaced my old monitoring habit. Here's how I use it.
What stock-watcher Can Do
Three things:
- Manage watchlists — Add, remove, and view which stocks you're tracking
- Query real-time quotes — Calls 10jqka (Tonghuashun) data API for price, change, volume, etc.
- Generate performance summaries — Packages the recent trend of your full watchlist into a summary report
Data from Tonghuashun covers A-shares, HK stocks, and US stocks. No API key required — install and use immediately.
Installation
clawhub install stock-watcher
Adding Your First Watchlist
Add 700 (Tencent), 9988 (Alibaba), 0981 (SMIC) to my stock watchlist
OpenClaw calls stock-watcher's add command and writes these stocks to a local watchlist.json file. For A-shares, use numeric codes (e.g., 000001 for Ping An, 510300 for CSI 300 ETF).
Checking Today's Market
Most commonly used feature. Every morning around 10am:
How are my stocks doing today?
OpenClaw batch-queries all stocks in your watchlist and returns something like:
📊 Watchlist Performance (as of 10:23)
Tencent (700.HK) 395.20 ▲ +1.2%
Alibaba (9988.HK) 78.45 ▼ -0.8%
SMIC (981.HK) 22.10 ▲ +3.4% ⚡
CSI 300 ETF (510300) 4.012 → +0.1%
ChiNext ETF (159915) 1.876 ▼ -0.5%
SMIC jumped 3.4% that day — OpenClaw automatically added a ⚡ marker for unusual moves. A nice touch.
Setting Up Daily Summary Pushes
Send me a stock summary every day at 3pm (after A-share market close)
OpenClaw creates a cron job that generates the daily summary at 15:00 and sends it via Telegram or Discord. The cron only fires on weekdays (1-5) — no weekend pushes, sensible default.
During Earnings Season
When a company reports earnings, I check once after market open and once before close. If any stock has a ±3% move, I dig into the earnings or news. Caught SMIC up nearly 5% in one day from the daily summary, checked — AI chip sector tailwind — added to my position that afternoon. Not because AI gave me a buy signal, but because it made sure I didn't miss the information.
Limitations
Data delay: Tonghuashun data is near-real-time for A-shares during trading hours; HK stocks sometimes have a few minutes' lag. Don't use for high-frequency decisions.
No historical K-lines: stock-watcher shows current or recent prices only, no charts or technical analysis.
No buy/sell recommendations: This skill only aggregates information — no analysis, no recommendations. Investment judgment is yours.
US stock time zone: US market closes at ~4am Beijing time — configure cron times accordingly.
Pairing With hk-ai-stock-expert
ClawHub also has a hk-ai-stock-expert skill for deep analysis of HK AI-sector stocks. Our approach: stock-watcher tracks daily price moves; hk-ai-stock-expert provides background analysis when there's a major move. Complementary — information tracking and deep analysis stay separate.
Summary
stock-watcher is simple — its functions are relatively basic. But it solves a specific problem well: turning "open the app to check stocks" into "ask one question and get the answer."
For people who don't trade for a living but just want to keep tabs on their positions, this lightweight aggregation tool beats professional software that's 90% features you'll never use. Try it — the cost is essentially zero.
