Weekly Review Template: Write a High-Quality Weekly Report in 5 Minutes
Why You Need Structured Reviews
Most people’s weekly reports are just mundane logs: "Did A, B, and C this week." After reading it, your boss only remembers that you were busy, but has no idea if you delivered any results.
The core of a structured review isn’t about "writing more," but "writing precisely"—allowing the reader to grasp your value within 30 seconds.
Template: The 4-2-1 Structure
4 Key Results (What shipped)
List one to four items per week, using a consistent format:
Result Title — One-sentence outcome + quantifiable metrics
Examples:
- Launched user feedback collection feature — Collected 127 valid feedback entries in the first week
- Completed Q2 content calendar — Covered 8 channels and 42 pieces of content
Do NOT write: "Followed up on project progress," "Participated in meeting discussions"—these are processes, not results.
2 Blockers/Risks (What's blocking)
Be honest about problems, but always include your assessment:
Issue — Impact scope + Your proposed solution
Examples:
- Tight design resources, 3 requests queued — Recommend prioritizing the landing page schedule and delaying banners
- Fluctuating API response times — Traced to third-party rate limiting; currently negotiating capacity expansion
Do NOT write: "No issues"—this essentially tells your boss you don’t need support.
1 Priority for Next Week (What's next)
Write only the single most important item:
Core Goal for Next Week — Why it matters + Success criteria
Example:
- Complete paywall A/B testing — Verify if paid conversion rate increases by more than 10%
Use Cases
| Scenario | Suitable | Not Suitable |
|---|---|---|
| Personal Weekly Report | ✅ | — |
| Preparation before team stand-up | ✅ | — |
| Project milestone reporting | ✅ | Too detailed for daily updates |
| Daily instant messaging | — | ✅ Too formal |
| Emergency incident report | — | ✅ Too slow |
Checklist
- [ ] Each result includes quantifiable metrics (numbers, percentages, time)
- [ ] Blockers include proposed solutions, not just problems
- [ ] No more than one priority for next week
- [ ] Total length under 300 words
- [ ] No empty phrases like "follow up," "push forward," or "continuously optimize"
Common Pitfalls
- Confusing "did" with "delivered" — Attending a meeting is not a result; the decisions made in the meeting are.
- Listing too many blockers — More than 3 suggests you are complaining, not reviewing.
- Listing too many priorities for next week — If everything is a priority, nothing is.
- Using adjectives instead of data — "Good results" is worse than "Conversion rate increased by 15%."
One-Sentence Summary
A weekly report is not a diary; it is a value brief. Use the 4-2-1 structure to finish in 5 minutes, allowing your boss to understand your contributions in 30 seconds.
