The Question Worth Asking
Recently someone asked: with OpenClaw and a pile of installed skills, which ones are you actually using every day versus which ones just sit there?
Good question. Here's the honest answer from SFD Lab after a year of production use.
First: An Observation About Quality Distribution
ClawHub's skill quality is uneven. Some skills are production-tested and maintain reliability over time. Others are demo-quality — they work under ideal conditions and fail on edge cases. Before installing any skill, check the SKILL.md completeness. If there's no section on limitations, error handling, or gotchas, assume the author hasn't run it in production conditions.
High-Frequency: Daily Use
edge-tts + voice-message: Voice briefings and alerts. The difference in attention and retention between audio and text notifications is significant enough that we've standardized on audio for anything time-sensitive.
browser-automation: Everything that requires interacting with a page. Competitor monitoring, CMS verification, portal form submission. Works where Selenium would require custom scraper maintenance.
humanizer: Every piece of long-form content before publishing. Not because AI writing is terrible but because the specific patterns it removes are the ones that signal "this was generated."
Medium-Frequency: Weekly Use
deep-research-pro, PDF skill, translate-cli — all excellent at their jobs, triggered by specific needs rather than constant use.
The Pattern
The skills that earn daily use solve problems that recur daily. Install skills based on your actual recurring needs, not on what sounds impressive. The best skill for your team is the one that removes friction from something you do every day.
